Hello. I'm working on getting back into blogging. I'm using my 11 year old camera and working with the settings. I made this t-shirt in May of 2018. I used a Sew Classics cotton knit from JoAnns. It's held up pretty well except for some pilling. I used my Viking 960Q sewing machine only on the tshirt. This review is not great but it's a beginning.<br />

Year before last, I had made a few turtle necks and I could not remember which pattern I had used. This winter I wanted a few mock turtles to wear as long T shirts during the winter. I made these the last 2 weeks of December. In North Texas then, the temps were up in the 60's to 70's with more of a West to South wind. Anything up here in the West or Southerly winds is usually a warmer crisper day.</div>

The finished version of the long sleeve, mock turtle was that it was a looser fit, which is fine , but not the closer fit I remembered.<br />

On my sleeve hems and finished length hem, I used a basic zig zag, and I am very happy with it. I did not serge this T. It's a lightweight cotton knit and I wanted to just use the sewing machine.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Another view of the top. I've worn this twice, but wanted to wear it more often. The temps have been in the 20's just for this week, and these tops are perfect for inside and out with a coat.<br />
<br />
The curtains and the window ledge pad I made during summer when I was feeling better from my 3 and 1/2 month cold. I think I winged it with the pad, but the curtains came from the Craftsy class, Sewing for the nursery by Vanessa Wilson, I think. I rewatch that class with every window project I do. I don't think I've reviewed any of the projects. There is a 16 inch overlay in the middle of the curtain on purpose because even though our one story house is up on a little hill, it's a flat little hill, and you can walk up to the window and look in. The windows are triple pane with a gas layer between 2 of them and that makes it hard to see through, but I still wanted the extra layer. I used stash fabrics and matched up prints and solids and made another set for our bathroom too.</div>

A bit of history before I get into the new vest.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I remember buying this magazine and beginning to make this vest for a Christmas vest back in 81. Very newly married, barely in my 20's and new to more advanced sewing techniques, like quilting and sandwiching, beading, etc. </div>

I was able to trace and cut out my size, purchase th beads, but ask my older sister to help with the beading. I finished the vest and ask her tell me how to sew it up and turn it right side out. She did. I wore it with a cream turtleneck from LL Bean that year. I loved sewing and I loved the vest. She ask to borrow it to show to a friend, and I never saw the vest again.<br />
<br />
This pattern I come across in my pattern stash have always thought I would remake it again over the years. This Christmas was the year. The fabric had been in my fabric stash for a very long time. I bought the 2 bolts during the Walmart fabric close out one year. <br />

The beads are from a bead collage my son did for a college art class. He did Roland Orzabal in beads. We framed it. Really a good Roland bead likeness. The bells I was planning to put on a tree skirt I made in the same fabric a few years ago but didn't use them.<br />

Green rick rack on the pockets. I quilted through the out fabric and the batting. I sewed the beads and bells through the top fabric and the batting. I sewed the 2 layers together at the outer edges like a seam allowance.<br />

I had thought to add in some more beading, or rick rack or applique, really smother it in Ellie Mae Clampett needlework, but left it relatively plain in the end.<br />

Inside out. This was a fun project and I wore it with a cream turtleneck and it just took me back in time. Silly, but I am so glad I did this.<br />
<br />
Now..where have I been. Well in 2016, I was driving 3 kids all over the metroplex to work and school and other places, and I never got a chance to do any sewing. Maybe some small projects or projects broken up over time. I was exhausted and using a computer I was not familiar with and just put everything to the side. In January 2017, I was planning on coming back, but I got sick and whether it was the flue or bronchitis, it was severe, and lasted into March. I really should have gone in, I was emergency room sick or doctor's office sick, maybe even hospital sick, but I didn't.<br />
<br />
Then I got very weak, like I had been in bed and didn't have any strength weakness. I thought that would be my life after that. I really did. In the middle of summer 2017, I began to feel better and get stronger. So far this year, I haven't gotten sick. So I'm hoping to get back into blogging, figure out what happens to my pictures when I transfer them over from my camera, and maybe change my blog around to update it here and there. </div>

A work in progress. This will soon be Kwik Sew 3794, a very easy gathered skirt with an elastic back and plain front. I added 6 inches to my skirt to make it longer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The fabric is a narrow quilting fabric which I had purchased in yards years ago from Fabric com. I've used it for almost everything and decided to use most of it in this skirt. I'm not sure how it will look finished, but with a brown t shirt and sandals, it might look nice for summer.</div>

Around 2 years ago, I lost my laptop and posting pictures to that one was so easy. All of my kids have moved off the family desktop and so I am trying to learn how to use it for blog posting. It's different and a few extra steps. I don't see a laptop in my future soon. I've been sewing slowly and simply so my posts will not be exciting. </div>

I used up some scraps of fabric. The gray and blue in the shirt is some med weight sweat shirt fabric and the sleeves are a lighter weight sweat shirt fabric. I used black rib knit for the neck and the waist hem. I took some design liberty in in the blocking. I basically put my traced pattern on the scraps to see how much fabric I had. Then I cut the pattern up, placed it on my scraps, eyeballed some seam allowances and began cutting and sewing. <br />

This Kwik Sew pattern contains a lab coat and a scrub or nursing top. I failed to get a picture of the pattern to include in this blog post.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My son wanted to be Jack Hodgins from Bones for Halloween. I used the lab coat pattern and switched the buttons and the buttonholes to the way guys wear them. I embroidered Hodgins on the coat, and my son found this patch on the internet. I moved it over slightly because there is a pen/pencil pocket area. I ironed on the patch and it stuck like glue but latter fell off and the pocket was on, so I had to carefully slip stitch it to the pocket. Next time I will use a good fabric glue.</div>

The vent on the lab coat. I used a poly twill in a royal blue color. I could not find a good match to the show's, so I went with this next best color.<br />

For the belt, I went with the pattern instead of trying to copy and draft something that looked like what was on the show. I did not make buttonholes. I just sewed the buttons through to the other side.<br />

The other side.<br />
<br />
The little valance is new too. I use a clearance fabric from JoAnns for that. We have a high fence and yard in back and it's hard for neighbors to see in through the blinds open or closed. This window is also next to the back door and long curtains can get dirty. I only had 10 yards and made 2 valances and in the process of making a curtain for the window closest to our next door neighbor. We have a yard and fence on that side also, but decided to go ahead with the curtain.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The piano we got also on clearance many years ago when the boys were taking piano lessons and the teacher said these types of pianos were good when you didn't know if you were going to keep taking piano lesson for the first few years. They only took for a few years, but the piano sounds really nice still.</div>
<div>
The cushion was leftover foam from my pillow cushion sewing festival that's going on now.</div>

What I did on my summer vacation. Not that much sewing and what I did was not very good. It felt like a vacation where we had to get a lot done before going back to work. We did some vacation type eating and I gained some weight. I went through my closet and tried on a lot of things and put back a pretty good small collection of things I'm going to start the fall on. My husband has decided he is not ready for retirement and went looking for a job. I've picked back up on my walking. </div>

I had some upholstery fabric I bought a long time ago when Walmart began closing out their fabric section, but I never found the chair I wanted and didn't have enough to recover anything anyway. So I began to turn it into cushions. I made one for the fireplace. We have DVD's and dog things so I only made this one. I made 2 for a bedroom window seat. I'm now going to make some big sofa cushions and slowly use it up. It is definitely upholstery fabric, stiff and doesn't feel very good for any other projects. So I'm currently in pillow/cushion making mode. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been going through my stash for fabrics. JoAnns is way over by the mall, and I haven't had the time alone to spend looking online for fabrics, but I do have a fabric stash. I pulled this linen out and played around with the yardage for quite awhile. From skirts, to dresses, to shorts, to some sort of a jacket, but I just wasn't happy. The linen seemed to stretch a bit when hung on a dress dummy, the weave felt a bit coarse..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP80wB8cjd71NOfDRjpdzbARpng-8o8KB9833p1HijQWR8dHiUJjhtpbI3L69A9WWvFyQUOh81YMvPmnB3GaBpCpBr0dszBWWjZjkBaGvF-o_4jSpljsyUXHFjznNecQCMD1IVW0C-Ou8/s1600/napkins2+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP80wB8cjd71NOfDRjpdzbARpng-8o8KB9833p1HijQWR8dHiUJjhtpbI3L69A9WWvFyQUOh81YMvPmnB3GaBpCpBr0dszBWWjZjkBaGvF-o_4jSpljsyUXHFjznNecQCMD1IVW0C-Ou8/s320/napkins2+002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
so I opted for napkins. I did want some linen napkins though. I made daily napkins, cocktail napkins and hor dourve napkins. I picked these sizes because they fit the amount of fabric that I had. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvhjqb4VsTB2vFgUB93DkQ4w9jO83jbQC27mxd20OZU8IoPqAT7YWrzT4pa7gY6ylmuSxp57BHhsURSO0N2Ap_Wl05SzaHACXhWDmPydHxi12U-Vq9EkaZryWFgcv__DLsDE9bzjv_87s/s1600/napkins2+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvhjqb4VsTB2vFgUB93DkQ4w9jO83jbQC27mxd20OZU8IoPqAT7YWrzT4pa7gY6ylmuSxp57BHhsURSO0N2Ap_Wl05SzaHACXhWDmPydHxi12U-Vq9EkaZryWFgcv__DLsDE9bzjv_87s/s320/napkins2+003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The cocktail napkins. I made a pattern measuring 7 by 7 inches. This included a 1/2 inch hem all around. The finished napkins were 6 by 6 inches. This fit the scraps that I had left over from the daily napkins. These are great for icy drinks on a glass top table.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0LxNu65naDjSgeYmOGA7WSFJckqeozvwMd26qsJdHXwPNUkN2oMAMxsc1D0vYKdQYln-jy4HG4KaTcFBI1-CEC36FoDkPRG2uhCSxIgv01jjex4EVBChAOr7aUFIIQNNirH0GdJi1Gi8/s1600/napkins2+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0LxNu65naDjSgeYmOGA7WSFJckqeozvwMd26qsJdHXwPNUkN2oMAMxsc1D0vYKdQYln-jy4HG4KaTcFBI1-CEC36FoDkPRG2uhCSxIgv01jjex4EVBChAOr7aUFIIQNNirH0GdJi1Gi8/s320/napkins2+004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The daily napkins are a great everyday size. I made a pattern again measuring 21 by 21 inches with a 1/2 hem allowance. The finished napkins are 20 by 20 inches. I have been able to successfully spot treat these and get the stains out from spaghetti sauce.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW5NFbR3I2Ex6-moGkYuFBdiaDD5OXdlOgtynI4e1QO_tAlNd3rO0fVod0vKXh_edpYjYwDIfQL__SPKXbCrS39LMNljGakjJdTdHhz61m_EnTaC01k09Uf8VoaeO93eScKwwFlT8Dqfk/s1600/napkins2+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW5NFbR3I2Ex6-moGkYuFBdiaDD5OXdlOgtynI4e1QO_tAlNd3rO0fVod0vKXh_edpYjYwDIfQL__SPKXbCrS39LMNljGakjJdTdHhz61m_EnTaC01k09Uf8VoaeO93eScKwwFlT8Dqfk/s320/napkins2+005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The hor dourves size again was based on what was left over and what size napkin I could get from that size. The Internet told me a hor dourve napkin was 12 by 12 finished, but I had to go down an inch. The pattern I created was 12 by 12, and the finished size is 11 by 11 inches with 1/2 inch seam allowance all around.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLnAKlHymcIODYtyQpsL79B7NlJMOsddHR-czJNsFAIxRkvBx19FJJbKYVENvrXk0W6pb61ZDyjU3i9J7Zh8mLXcZIy_I9NIWotTts0aRK0GjNow_6wt18JM1Ys-rhJX948X52vid0UPE/s1600/napkins2+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLnAKlHymcIODYtyQpsL79B7NlJMOsddHR-czJNsFAIxRkvBx19FJJbKYVENvrXk0W6pb61ZDyjU3i9J7Zh8mLXcZIy_I9NIWotTts0aRK0GjNow_6wt18JM1Ys-rhJX948X52vid0UPE/s320/napkins2+006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
These last few were a shortened hor dourve, for lunches or what not. So far I've been extremely happy with these napkins. They are beautiful to see in the drawer, and the kids seem to really like using them.<br />
<br />
I'm taking a brief (hopefully) break from sewing. The ironing board I brought down from the attic is broken. A plastic piece that holds the ironing board up is broken. Since I had to recently buy a new refrigerator, I've decided to sand the rusty part of the old one and repaint it with a metal paint. My husband is trying to get the fence protected, but we are having a heat wave and the painting is going slowly. He's got the rusty part sanded, but I wanted to use a much stronger white paint (he had green, black and white in the garage) and he needs a paint filter to breathe through for that paint. I plan to paint the whole thing all the way white at a later date. </div>

The pattern above is from Kwik Sew 3567, which is a sport top. I made mine in swimwear fabric and 3/4 sleeves. I want this to go over my one piece tank and my one piece racer back, also from a Kwik Sew pattern. I can get in and out of the pool and not get cold, stay protected from the sun, and not offend neighbors or children.<br />

These bottoms were made from Kwik Sew 3239 in the same swimwear fabric. My butt can get a little big, being a pear shape, and I also wanted some extra modesty butt coverings at times. I wear these over my tank like a pair of swim shorts if I feel the need too. Besides the 2 KS tanks, the sport top and the swim bottoms, I also have a bottom tie skirt from KS 3330. <br />

My toes, and my Arizona Birkenstocks.<br />
<br />
And, now a car update. When we purchased our car, we bought it through a Honda dealer. That dealer sold his dealership to a big multi used car dealership that has authorized Honda repair people. After the last recall episode, I wanted to move away from that dealer and get fresh eyes on my situation. Another recall notice came in and we moved up the road to a well thought of Honda only dealership. The recall was sent out from Honda just to make sure everyone was sure to get their parts replaced. This new guy took us over and sat into our car and explained to us that Honda did indeed replace the horn piece with the airbag attached because the other airbag was defective. * We thought this was the case, but the old multi car dealership was very confused and kept changing his story.<br />
The next recall was for a gas cylinder. So our car is perfect and if there is anything else he can do for us, let him know. It felt like it was the first time we purchased our car.<br />
<br />
I'm finishing up another project. We think we may be losing our fridge. Retire early and every major appliance goes. In early retirement, there is no income, but that division of the company is closing forever. We are also brushing off old sealer from our fence and putting on new sealer. I'll try and remember to get a picture. The brushed off fence looks great though.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My old ironing board is breaking through and rusting out. I had 2 ironing boards, one I bought when I had my own sewing room. I put one up in the attic and that's the one I brought back down.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpy9IzIoJtc8Hs_u-jBeHNcQe6u5dEncoVeB1nqh0DE_DVMVrTyDiUveeBOmSfZaLPSzE2Xv4Q0xqp9ycEmMrxuMZ8_cwUXkDdG29tQMaQo-7fXLer2yd-4XO_a2PrTG-iEsFvD1X01cw/s1600/ironing+board+cover+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpy9IzIoJtc8Hs_u-jBeHNcQe6u5dEncoVeB1nqh0DE_DVMVrTyDiUveeBOmSfZaLPSzE2Xv4Q0xqp9ycEmMrxuMZ8_cwUXkDdG29tQMaQo-7fXLer2yd-4XO_a2PrTG-iEsFvD1X01cw/s320/ironing+board+cover+005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I used paper to mark the outline of the new ironing board and trimmed it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnBUt6ihHJzz64MnqWsdQV6fH4AdQ5Qqm2-NRFjq-wxxdkJGXPVheRgwvbVFwwUNpY-5UNs-GMSgToPEtpnWGbqLVjORZedNTAtzU-MfFE0I2OE8MLF79F1tpC9d2H-VQlMep2dvdonXE/s1600/ironing+board+cover+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnBUt6ihHJzz64MnqWsdQV6fH4AdQ5Qqm2-NRFjq-wxxdkJGXPVheRgwvbVFwwUNpY-5UNs-GMSgToPEtpnWGbqLVjORZedNTAtzU-MfFE0I2OE8MLF79F1tpC9d2H-VQlMep2dvdonXE/s320/ironing+board+cover+006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I cut 2 layers of quilting batting and serged around both layers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsw_ulZE8Sr4YWAmkniOf1Ynp-CeLE4YsR9gkUlbZ6nlZ8zq7P24f1gzDSGxg7BHOxNYJoEln8qsOa5oVZZMsPh65ivvVXzC2-hHUPtr4y01eUUenRfmCJfKbJddPRrraS1lHMVCHiBac/s1600/ironing+board+cover+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsw_ulZE8Sr4YWAmkniOf1Ynp-CeLE4YsR9gkUlbZ6nlZ8zq7P24f1gzDSGxg7BHOxNYJoEln8qsOa5oVZZMsPh65ivvVXzC2-hHUPtr4y01eUUenRfmCJfKbJddPRrraS1lHMVCHiBac/s320/ironing+board+cover+008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I took the old ironing board cover, pulled out the cord, flattened it, pinned it to fabric, cut around that. I used some bias tape I had made for a quilt and sewed that on, ran the cording back through and put it back on the ironing board.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLRxAX6TL3JqqxQdiumHykVSTJ-BvqvNZva3cZzzO6G042MX1OLpBIMcwx5hyphenhyphenABqVtyRBAw4jS_Ps3YJIsu-raF_gFbVnofIA2RC-hcEQIx-5drP0Icx6c3ZbdlPbZzOzXx6QPjdWdJ-c/s1600/ironing+board+cover+011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLRxAX6TL3JqqxQdiumHykVSTJ-BvqvNZva3cZzzO6G042MX1OLpBIMcwx5hyphenhyphenABqVtyRBAw4jS_Ps3YJIsu-raF_gFbVnofIA2RC-hcEQIx-5drP0Icx6c3ZbdlPbZzOzXx6QPjdWdJ-c/s320/ironing+board+cover+011.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm going to have to do some ironing and steaming and tighting to fit it. This board had a sharp spot on it and I found it. So I'm waiting for the bleeding to stop while changing band aids. <br />

This is the poly chiffon and I waited years before I used it because I just didn't like the feel of it. It seemed to ravel badly. It did press reasonably well and sewed well. I wanted to use all of this up, so I made 2 sashes of different lengths and 2 scarves. They fold up nicely in my drawer and I have one less piece of fabric in my plastic container. I used my Viking 960Q on these after letting it sit for several months and it acted wonderfully. I love that machine,</div>

This is the top part of our driveway. There is a high tension cable underneath. They use the cable to help keep the concrete level or flat??<br />

We called Sears and ordered 2 different parts that might be the problem. We used one of the parts, this one below and called to see about returning the other one, an item under 15.00 dollars. They are crediting our account and told us to keep the part. Whoa. Sears just moved up a notch for me this week.</div>

This is a sewing blog, but also a suburban living blog and it seems we are doing the suburban part more lately. My husband's last day is Monday. 35 years at work. I'm very proud of him, It seems this list is very important to him to get done so that's what we are doing. I currently have too many tops, but I want to work on some pants but just don't have the time to devote to picking a pattern or making a muslin just yet.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We have been working on our list of things to do. Next up was a Honda recall. But first, let me tell you the beginning of a love story. I heard about Honda when I was 20 or 21. We are from a smaller town, and a few Honda's came in and usually had a list. We could not afford a Honda and were never on the list. I knew when the kids were older, my next car would be a Honda. I would stay in Honda, my kids would get Honda's.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, one day in 2005, we looked at a Honda lot. A man had turned in his leased Honda. He leased it for 2 years, and then extended it for one more year paying an extra price. He ended up turning it in a month early and picking up the next top of the line Honda. Below is the button I found in the car. I've kept it in my jewelery box because it was a very pretty button and because I wondered what kind of a life my car had had.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLPGXEwwOMccs1FwfzT8SeVa0gE7CPfZXu6h-RDodyUK9v3y6k6_8aRAfR_M8fCwSlt5CIV63vC6QgvjFZLyfFeOujHKZuHjIHc0_eWxLU6RGwGPP4flNylqUkWMHKa9ZoQPPrq_lGbIA/s1600/Old+Friends+069.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLPGXEwwOMccs1FwfzT8SeVa0gE7CPfZXu6h-RDodyUK9v3y6k6_8aRAfR_M8fCwSlt5CIV63vC6QgvjFZLyfFeOujHKZuHjIHc0_eWxLU6RGwGPP4flNylqUkWMHKa9ZoQPPrq_lGbIA/s320/Old+Friends+069.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
( <i>Magical Button)</i><br />
The car had a file. A Car Fax file. It was mint, pre certified and came with a warranty. We extended the warranty for an additional 5 years. We started out making payments, but decided quickly to just go ahead and pay the car off. Every time we got a dealership postcard, the car went in. Then the dealership got sold and we were worried about the new dealership giving us the same care as the old dealership. But we got a recall on the airbag 3 years ago and took the car in. <br />
<br />
When we got the car back, the horn piece over the airbag had been changed. I was furious and talked to the service manager. I was told that under Honda Corporation directive. That part had to be sent back, and I got one that had been fixed and was close in color and it was being done to everyone because of the massive airbag recall. I was furious with Honda. I hated them for what they had done to my car. I mean this was a certified Honda repair dealership, and where my car had originally come from, and I was sure they were telling me the truth, but I had wanted them to call and tell me or let me know without finding out just by seeing the car. The replacement part looked used. It was dirty, scratched and very, very sticky. Still is. We Googled all over the Internet and purchased some Ibiz. After a number of cleanings, it has become much cleaner than it was, but you can still tell it's not my original part, and the scratches and dark spots are still there, and it's still sticky.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div>
So, this past week, we called to see if our recalled piece had come in, having called 3 weeks ago. They said to bring it in. We also asked if they were going to change the horn piece again as they had done 3 years ago. They said the horn piece should never have been changed and it the inflator under the horn piece. The horn piece would have stayed in the car the entire time. I was livid. We asked the manager of the service department to meet us there. So when we get there, he comes out with his clipboard, saying this was all they did and how could the horn piece have been changed, and how did he know if something had been done on my end in the last 3 years, because we haven't been in in 3 years. He also said why didn't we come back in right away and we said we called, and we did when we got home to talk to the highest person there in the service department and were told the very same Honda directive story. (<i> Also, remember, we own the car, and can take it anywhere we want to, and remember, the last time we were there, the horn piece was changed.)</i></div>
<div>
I tell him we are willing to address the situation with a service technician and find out who he is and what he did with my original car part, and the man said to take it up with Honda. I said let's go into your office and call Honda and talk to them. He said nothing. Since he had to do the recall, he said they would take care of it. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We picked up the car later that afternoon, and as I was standing in the office, with all the Honda people being so nice, as if my dad had just died, and he did, but they didn't know that, I got a deja vue moment and remembered 3 years ago in that same office throwing the same fit over my Honda part being changed. He lied about the part and must have forgotten lying because who would have thought there would be another recall on the very same part.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I cried for days 3 years ago, grieving my car's loss. I had taken such good care of her, then Honda just ripped a part of her out. Then this past week, I cried again, over deception, horrible care from a certified repair center. <i> </i>I had loved her and Honda let me down, and I needed to put her back in the garage as a regular old car and not my beloved Honda. I told the manager my love for Honda and this car died a little more every time I get in it because of what Honda had done to me when I thought the issue was with Honda and not the dealership.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We are changing dealerships. The car (<i> not my baby anymore)</i> will soon need more servicing eventually. <strike>She</strike> It has about 79,000 miles on it and I will try someone new. My husband will not be replacing his commuter car with a Honda, and the boys will look at different manufacturers. It has felt like the loss of a friend to that of an acquaintance and I'm sorry for the loss.</div>

Both sides of the yard. I'm posting sporadically currently. My parents were scammed of a lot of money in the fall. That case will soon go to trial. Then my dad kept getting sick more frequently. Then he died last month. Then my husband went into early retirement. Then we have this never ending rain cycle. I really think my dad's death was the real life sucker for me. My husband has done a really good job with his honey do list. His outside list is way behind though. <br />

The boys are pretty much done with school. It was a long year with the youngest, but he did very well. They put him in 4 AP classes for next year. The middle is beginning car shopping. He changes his mind every time we talk to him, so we try and nod our heads and wonder which car/model he is talking about now. We also want him to take a long time in choosing for various reasons.<br />

*I set up an instagram accout, but the pad I'm using has a really bad camera in it, and I can't get a new smart phone until my current contract runs out.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Anyway, I've been reading a book called <i>The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.</i> I've been doing a milder version of this book through my house. I've only had the book for several weeks and I didn't think I needed a clean out that badly, but I will say the book has me thinking differently.<br />
<br />
Anyway, on to the bag. I had done a purge of my younger boys closet and I had 2 garbage bags of clothing. I didn't really want to add to our landfill or the very big pile at our local Good Will that I've seen in the past, but I have been wanting to have some extra fabric to play around with. So, for the time being, I'm leaving the bags in our garage. <br />
<br />
Now, on to the bag, I took a pair of jeans that had holes in the knees, and I cut above the hole and below the hole, then I cut off the hem. I cut off the inner leg seam on both pair and I sewed both legs together and the bottom up. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXvmpCDu-Acs1ytomot5pAOv1JYDk9-FzHN5v93dzjaEgZx00EuKh9EGzZ_lyBxzYKq_5dIgnzjKcCRHx-QG1Va9eh5FeA-bw1K4Tp7RwXTV7DA6bnLBhWmabbgJ3XdC4WLq1xYLXqbA0/s1600/crafty+bag+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXvmpCDu-Acs1ytomot5pAOv1JYDk9-FzHN5v93dzjaEgZx00EuKh9EGzZ_lyBxzYKq_5dIgnzjKcCRHx-QG1Va9eh5FeA-bw1K4Tp7RwXTV7DA6bnLBhWmabbgJ3XdC4WLq1xYLXqbA0/s1600/crafty+bag+002.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I measured 2 inches from each bottom corner and drew a line and sewed along that line, then cut off the excess. I overcast the edge of the top, made some buttonholes, sewed a casing and threaded some bias tape through the top. Then I took some fabric squares I've been saving up for block quilting and self lined them and made them pockets on the front. I took a robe tie and cut it in half and used it for the handles. We had a warehouse sized package of microclothes and several packs given to us from those talks they give you in the warehouse store, and they were all stuffed in my hall closet. I even have some in the laundry. I'm going to fold them all up and put them in the bag and hang them on a nail in the garage.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1p2tVboPWfRdRLuVP6O6Pbgh9lWHdyqnrq95kET6lOvzXOFy251VfoeWW-NQX-POPbkpklz0i7eQkEU39ngrd5hgpJVSPkU4K6PoBgiJMkNxpOobVmYXRKYJRih9lahNQJvmPDYAPirc/s1600/crafty+bag+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1p2tVboPWfRdRLuVP6O6Pbgh9lWHdyqnrq95kET6lOvzXOFy251VfoeWW-NQX-POPbkpklz0i7eQkEU39ngrd5hgpJVSPkU4K6PoBgiJMkNxpOobVmYXRKYJRih9lahNQJvmPDYAPirc/s1600/crafty+bag+003.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
The bottom. Doesn't look too bad. While I'm in this weird funk, I may just play around with the fabric in the bags. </div>

When the back rear piece is sewn to the sides and then sewn to the fronts, turn the boxer short so the right side is up. <br />

On the right side, place the fly section and sew down one side, then turn and sew to the blue dot mark. Clip from the SA to the blue dot to release the fabric in this area.<br />

Measure the elastic. (This happens to be 1 1/4 instead of 2 inches). On this side stick the elastic all the way inside to the edge, pin and top stitch all the way down the fly area to the bottom.<br />

Finished boxers. The rest of the instructions were pretty clear to me, but the fly area holds me up for some time until I figure it out or can get my husband to help me understand the instructions. I like that the fly area on these boxers are a 2 inches deep. These were for a chunky son. The seams did not match because I was using a small remnant. I may make him another pair. I'd like to see how these do. This will give him 2 pair so far. I can't really think of a thing more to sew. We've been just sick with allergies this season and it seems our spring calendar is very busy with family matters.</div>

Combine in a medium bowl;<br />
1 4 ounce jar chopped pimientos, drained (I cannot find these, so I use red bell pepper strips chopped)<br />
1 cup mayonnaise (I sometimes use a little bit more.)<br />
1 garlic clove (I have used granulated or powdered, google and found out how much equals a clove)<br />
1 tbl lemon juice<br />
1 tea dry mustard<br />
1/2 tea Worcestershire sauce<br />
1/4 tea ground red pepper (This burns my lip just a bit and I have used paprika)<br />
<br />
Beat with a wooden spoon or an electric mixer at medium speed until blended. Add 2 cups grated Colby, (8 ounces) and 2 cups grated Cheddar (8 ounces)<br />
<br />
Beat until the consistency of cottage cheese. Makes about 4 cups. From the Joy of Cooking 75th anniversary edition.<br />

I have been told this is awesome. You might think it's awesome too.<br />

I have not blogged about Whitney's rice bags (from Whitney Sews). The pillows I made using filler from a duct tape dress form I found in the attic, pillow cases made from sheets I was given that were the wrong size.<br />

I'm currently working on #404 First Choice Boxers from Timber Lane Press. They use up to 5 different fabrics and have the saggy butt. I'm adding up to 5 inches in length depending on the amount of fabric I have in my remnant box. These will be sleep shorts and I want them to be scooty comfortable. I haven't made these in a very long time, and I'm needing some extra help on the fly. I may do a tutorial when I have these figured out.<br />

We are not on a strict budget, but I've been watching some old The Lucy Shows, (the clothing is so tailored), and I think some of the shows are rubbing off on me.</div>

The wrinkling you see over the bust dart is not enough spray starch, the blouse has been hanging in a closet for a few days, and it's too big for the dressform. Just buttoning it on the dress form wrinkled it too.</div>

** I've been trying to find this pattern to link it, but it seems in the last 4 months or so, it has disappeared from online pattern sites. So, I'm reclassifying it as an OOP pattern. It went out the door this morning, but my husband was not in a mood for pictures. He just wanted to make it to work in one piece in the rain. I also plan to replace the buttons. I should have made the buttonholes larger. Various charts have 5/8's buttons anywhere from 15mm to 17 mm. And I think I was having a reading glasses malfunction when I first read the pattern. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The finished jacket. I made this jacket using JoAnn's heavy denim. I believe it was about 12 oz. The pattern is really easy. I chose to top stitch in navy blue, because I was worried about my top stitching skills. The fit is generous. My husband is a Large sometimes entering in the the extra Large region</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmA87j0Og0Dt8JSdOOqj8BbyaGiuYR-T-C1fMvy5qRWF2uLfBU-Is6PnCobAwlOuKCs6KxF1WXpwaZl3u3A139m04Tz2JdWzH04YxRYweHrjZLMFPEdfdACKtyByiL9CJ0NWUqqx-DqpE/s1600/Kwik+sew+001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmA87j0Og0Dt8JSdOOqj8BbyaGiuYR-T-C1fMvy5qRWF2uLfBU-Is6PnCobAwlOuKCs6KxF1WXpwaZl3u3A139m04Tz2JdWzH04YxRYweHrjZLMFPEdfdACKtyByiL9CJ0NWUqqx-DqpE/s1600/Kwik+sew+001.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
and this jacket would go over a shirt. I'd like a bit of a closer fit over the wrists, but then if he were wearing a heavier shirt, the wrist would fit too tight. The pattern called for 5/8's or 15 mm buttons, but my 15 mm setting seemed to short for the 5/8's size and I used some brown shirt buttons I had pulled off of some old chambray shirts of his. Next time, I'm going to do more samples and use a larger buttonhole size.<br />

I did flat felled where I could. This pattern has 5/8's seam allowance, and I did a 4 thread serge on the side seams. I wish now I had done a flat felled on the side seams. <br />
<br />
Overall, I love the jacket and will make my husband more of these as the years go by. I have a few trendier ideas not that I am familiar with the pattern. It could have been a quicker sew, but with the snow and ice we had over the last few weeks, I did loads of driving kids around, batches of oatmeal raisin cookies. </div>
